Time-Space Photography: Ryujoko
 
    The world is made up of an infinite number of photographs that extend across four dimensions. I applied the concept that "photographs contain two times," the basis for my My Mother the Stranger series, by smashing two different images together and condensing them into a single photographic plane that transcends time and space.
     Then, I decided I'd like to create a spatial work using fragments of photographs just as they were -- uncondensed and part of a four-dimensional time and space.
     Without any prior intentions, a trip I made in 2008 to Lake Liutiao (pronounced "Ryujoko" in Japanese) where the Manchurian Incident broke out, blending fact and fiction and transcending time and space, became the first of these "time-space photographs." I chose the 20-meter corridor on the west side of the gallery as a four-dimensional time-space to show my work. I hope viewers will pass through the middle of it.

時空写真 RYUJOKO


　世界は四次元的に張り巡らされた無数の写真でできている。「私の知らない母」シリーズの基本コンセプトである「ふたつの時間を持つ写真」は、時間と空間 を超えた異なるふたつの写真を衝突させて一枚の写真平面に圧縮したものであった。次は、圧縮しない、四次元時空間に写真の欠片が散らばったままの空間作品 をつくりたいと思っていた。
　計らずも、2008年の中国・柳条湖への、虚実混交、時空を超える旅が、この「時空写真」の第一号となった。兵庫県立美術館ギャラリー西側の回廊部分約20mの空間を四次元時空間に見立てて、作品を展開する。観覧者が作品中を通り抜けられるようにしたい。
